“Interference”
Part I:
Two Source Interference
* Go to the following website:
http://www.walterfendt.de/ph14e/interference.htm
* Read the explanation near the top of the page, then look at the animation.
Note that the red curves show where constructive
interference occurs, while the blue curves show where destructive interference occurs.
* Pause the animation, and holding a ruler up to the computer monitor estimate the following distances:
(1) the difference in radius
between consecutive black circles; (2) the distance from any point of constructive interference to the center of one set of black
circles; (3) the distance from that same point of constructive interference to the center of the other set of black circles.
* Repeat the steps above for a point of destructive interference.
* Type in a new number for the distance between the sources, and press enter.
Observe how the patterns change.
* Type in a new number for the wavelength, and press enter.
