Worksheet: Chapter 18 Three identical point charges, each with charge q = +2.0 x 10 -6 C and mass m = 1.00 kg, are located at the corners of an equilateral triangle with side length 2.0 meters, as shown below right. 1) Sketch the electric field lines and the equipotential lines surrounding this charge arrangement. 2) Determine the electric potential at the center of the triangle. 3) Determine the potential energy of one of the charges. 4) How much total work was done in moving these three charges from infinity to their present positions? 5) One of the three charges is released from rest, while the other two are held in place. a) What is its speed after it has traveled 5.0 meters? b) What is its eventual final speed? 6) If instead all three charges are released from rest, what is the eventual final speed of each? 7) The three point charges are returned to their initial positions. A fourth point charge, identical to the other three, is initially very far away but moving straight toward the center of the triangle along the dashed line path shown at right. It stops right when it reaches point P on the line between the bottom two charges. What was its initial speed? An object of charge q 1 = +2.0 mC and mass m 1 = 2 kg is placed at the origin of a coordinate system, and another object of charge q 2 = +3.0 mC and mass m 2 = 3 kg is placed at x = 3.0 m. 8) Make a graph of the rightward electric field vs. position ( E vs. x ). 9) Make a graph of the electric potential vs. position ( V vs. x ) 10) Where is the electric field equal to zero?
