Physics Honors Lab: Circuits LAB INSTRUCTIONS Part One: Resistors in Series 1) With the voltage probe (voltmeter) connected to the LabPro, turn on the calculator. Start EASYDATA(from the APP menu). 2) Connect posts #1 and #2 with a wire. Connect posts #3 and #10 with a second wire. Connect posts #11 and #35 with a third wire. This is a “series” combination of the 10- and 68- resistors. See below. 3) Move switch SW1 to the up position. Connect a wire between the positive (red) terminal of the DC voltage source and the circuit board at post J1. Connect a second wire between the negative (black) terminal of the DC voltage source at post J2. Turn on the DC voltage source. Rotate the current knob clockwise about 90 degrees. Rotate the voltage knob clockwise until the voltage output is 1.0 V. 4) Move switch SW1 to the down position. 5) Note the current value displayed on the DC source. Record this as current, i . 6) Increase the voltage output of the DC source by 1.0 V. Note the output voltage of the source V s and the current i . 7) Repeat steps 5 and 6 four times, so that you have measured a total of five currents. 8) The output voltage of the source should now be 5.0 V. Connect one of the probes of the voltmeter to post #2 and the other to post #35. Record the magnitude of the voltage displayed on the calculator as “terminal voltage”, V t . 9)
