Dr. Chang    Kirchhoff’s Rules Junction Rule  – Assign the direction of currents at a junction if none is specified  for you.  If there is only one battery in the circuit, it is easy to get the directions  right.  However, even if you guessed wrong, it would not change the calculation  for the current except your answer will come out negative, telling you the current  direction is actually opposite  to the one you have assigned.  Make sure you have  at least one leaving or entering the junction.  In other words,  Σ I  in  =  Σ I  out  , total  current going into a junction must equal to the total current coming out. Loop Rule  – Assign either a clockwise or counterclockwise loop – your choice Follow the loop direction and sum the  V across each of the elements (R and  Battery) in the loop.  The sum of  Vs should be zero because you return to the
