Ptah-hotep’s Ethical Teachings
In “The Precepts of Ptah-hotep, c. 2200 BCE,” by Charles F Horne, Ptah-hoteps ethical
teachings are translated into English. He is teaching one how to be the better person or how to
react to an issue that may come up during your life time. Ptah-hoteps teachings are informative
on what to do during an event where you would behave incorrectly. Whether it be an issue on
what you say or what to do when someone makes you angry Ptah-hoteps teachings inform you
on what to do. His teachings show you how to a better person in the long run.
What does one do when a dispute comes up?
We tend to get into it and argue that their
opinion is better than the other. “If you find a disputant while he is hot, do not despise him
because you are not of the same opinion.” (Ptah-hotep Vol. II) Ptah-hotep is teaching one not to
get angry over someone elses opinion, everyone is entitled to their own. Do not judge one for
their opinion as everyone may have a different one.
