Social Interaction o The Process of socialization is individual, but the results of socialization are more macro Social interaction is the key to understanding these o In order to understand interaction we have through some definition Status o Recognizable social position that someone has o Status doesn’t really exist in one specific dimension o Individuals can have more than one specific status o Police Officer – Man, Father, Police Officer, Guitar Player – He can hold all of these statuses and none at the same time Role o Describes the set of duties and behaviors expected from someone who holds a particular status o Don the Police Officer Behaviors expected of him Uphold the law Patrol Protect and Serve Bust Perps Keep people safe If Don was a chef, he would have new roles. Types of Status o Ascribed Status Status into which one is born Sex Social Class
