The Future of Family Multiracial couples o For the first half of the twentieth century, Miscegenation laws kept interracial couples from getting married Ex: Virginia’s Racial Integrity Act of 1924 o Legal justification for the laws? God placed races on different continents, thus they were intended to be separate. Multi-Racial Families o Loving Family Interracial couple in 1960s that drove to D.C. because they couldn’t get married in Virginia. They posted their certificate on their wall. Police invaded the Home and attempted to catch them in a sexual act. They were convicted of Miscegenation, went to jail and convicted. The Supreme Court overturned the Loving vs. Virginia case in 1967. Pro Gay Marriage o Over 1400 rights are associated with marriage.
