Post hoc procedures - useful when exploring the data - used when you have no hypotheses ahead of time - pairwise comparisons (compare all different combinations of groups) in SPSS: predictor dose outcome improvement due to medicine - must know the order of the groups (value labels) - analyze compare means one-way ANOVA dependent: outcome factor: predictor - post-hoc button Tukey test for equal variances assumed, Games-Howell for not assumed - look at multiple comparisons output and choose which test to look at depending if you assume variance - look at homogenous subsets output presents whichever groups are statistically the same in each model Planned Contrasts - used when you have a hypothesis in SPSS: - one way ANOVA dependent: outcome
