SOC-386March 13, 2020 Family Systems In this case study, “Using a Family Systems Approach with an Adoptive Family of a Child with Special Needs,” the Laurent family is talk about, and in this family Andre, the father, and Marie, the mother adopts Marie’s extended nephew, Michael. They adopted him due to them having an earthquake in Haiti, which killed Michael’s entire family. Both of the parents, Andre and Marie, are immigrants from Haiti. Due to Andre being in the country longer than Marie, he ismore fluent in English than she is, he is also more aware of the school systems in which they reside in. With Michael being new to the country he is having mixed emotions, from having to deal with the loss of his whole family to having to get used to of being in a new country. Not only that, he has also been diagnosed with a post-traumatic stress disorder. Which is understandable considering what he has been through and now has to endure.
