1 ESE 382 Digital System Design Using VHDL and PLDs PRELIMINARY PRELIMINARY PRELIMINARY PRELIMINARY Spring 10, Ken Short March 1, 2010 5:58 pm Laboratory 5: Multifunction Expandable 8-Input Gate This laboratory is to be performed the week starting March 7th. Prerequisite Reading 1. Chapter 5 of the text. 2. CD4048 Multifunction 8-Input Gate data sheet. Purpose The purpose of this laboratory is to provide you with more experience in designing and imple- menting combinational circuits using VHDL and PLDs. You will write a description for a func- tional equivalent of a CD4048 Multifunction 8-Input Gate IC. The CD4048 is an 8-input gate having four control inputs. Three of the control inputs allow any one of eight different functions of the 8 data inputs to be selected. The fourth control input con- trols the three-state output. An expansion input is also provided so that the two CD4048s can be cascaded to produce a 16-input gate. Design Tasks
