Economies of scale l Gains in efficiency as the size of production is increased l Utilizing the available resources more fully l Can only occur in the long run Example: Economies of scale in Automobile production. A single car (for instance, those constructed for car racing) can cost millions of dollars. But, when the same features are incorporated in millions of parts, the cost becomes affordable. Recent studies indicate the minimum production of a line of cars is 100,000 units.
