More executives arrested in Parmalat scandal Last Updated: Thursday, January 1, 2004 | 12:40 PM ET CBC News Italian police executed eight arrrest warrants on Wednesday in connection with the case of Parmalat's missing billions. Those named in the warrants include five of the insolvent global food and dairy giant's executives. According to police in Milan, Parmalat's former chief financial officer Fausto Tonna, and another top former financial official, Luciano Del Soldato, are among those arrested. Two executives at the Italian offices of Grant Thornton, Parmalat's auditors, have also been arrested. In a statement issued late Wednesday, Grant Thornton International said its Italian branch had accepted the resignation of auditor Lorenzo Penca and another auditor, Maurizio Bianchi, has been suspended. Arrest warrants for the seven indicate prosecutors suspect them of criminal association leading to fraudulent bankruptcy and false accounting.
