OPTI 201R, Fall 2005 Problem Set IX Due October 24, 2005 10/24/05 1 of 2 IX.1 For a 35 mm slide (standard size format - 24.5 x 36.5 mm), at the focal plane of a thin lens with a 100 mm efl. What is the: a) Field of view (FOV) in horizontal direction? b) FOV in vertical direction? c) FOV on the diagonal? IX.2 A laser beam is incident on a surface at 20 degrees. Use plane mirrors to deviate this beam by 27 degrees from its original direction of propagation. How do you have to arrange the mirror(s)? Sketch the result. IX.3 A person is 5’10” tall and wants to buy a mirror to be able to observe his hair to his toes. This person is rather portly, in that his cross-section is 24”. He usually gets ready for work in the bathroom where he can be 7’ away from the mirror. a) How large of a mirror in height and width does he need to buy? b) If he dresses in the bedroom which is a 12’ span (mirror to man) how large should the mirror be?
