Sacks reading Please read the Sacks essays 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 for class on Thursday, Nov. 19. You’ll also want to be reading Chapter 12 in your text, on the Somatosensory system. Take special note of the sections on the posterior parietal and neglect (p. 407-8). Also, please be sure to review the sections of proprioceptors in your text (pp.438-440, 443-444). For future reference, I’ll also be asking you to read essays 10 and 14, probably for Monday, Nov. 30, and essays 2 and 12 when we talk about memory on Thursday, Dec. 3. Just to be sure my book is numbered the same as everyone else’s, the essays are: 1. The man who mistook his wife for a hat 3. The disembodied lady 4. The man who fell out of bed 5. Hands 6. Phantoms 7. On the level 8. Eyes Right! We’ll talk about the following questions in class (Thursday, Nov. 19), as well as anything else people want to bring up. Please be prepared with some thoughts about these questions. 1. In the first essay, what are some of Dr. P’s symptoms?
