Case Studies 2 Florida Company Fastens Its Sights on Global Growth Bryan Kilbey, is expanding his company, Professional Products Inc., started by his father 42 years ago, and taking it international. The company makes Velcro fasteners for medical supplies. He will build a new 100,000 square foot building and open a new sales office for the European Market. A Professional Products growth strategy is that they want to further develop the company on a global level. Kilbey has kept his employees by becoming the most stable source of employment in his community. There have never been any layoffs, although there have been times when a shorter work week has been required. The company has been making its own production components thus far, however with the new expansions, new technology and equipment will be used to streamline production. Kilbey is determined to not lose any current employees while making this transition. Kilbey avoids the panic hiring mode that adds more employees at crunch time. Kilbey plans on cross training his current employees so that when the production of materials is outsourced and no jobs will disappear. After outsourcing there will be other jobs available such as customer service, warehousing, inventory control, etc. Professional Products are against layoffs because they have never had to lay off any of its employees and it does not want to start now.
