Beauty pageants have had a negative effect on the mental stability of many contestants. In 2003, a study examined cross-sectional associations among pageant participation, body  higher, and self-esteem scores lower, for those who had participated in beauty pageants compared to those  who had not. Another study supporting the negative effects on the mental stability of many contest is the  body mass Assessment. The Body Image Assessment (BIA) is an instrument with determined reliability  and validity which assesses ones perception of current and preferred body shape and image (Williamson,  women who had participated in beauty pageants saw their current figure as larger than it actually was, and
