1. During an isothermal heat rejection process of a Carnot cycle, the working fluid experiences an entropy change of -0.7 Btu/R. If the temperature of the heat sink is 95°F determine the amount of heat transfer, the entropy change of the sink, and the total entropy change of the process. 2. 1 kg of water at 500°C and 1kg of saturated water vapor, both at 200kPa, are mixed in an adiabatic constant pressure process. Find the final temperature and entropy generated during the process. Is the process reversible, irreversible, etc. ? The process is Irreversible due to Sgen> 0.

3. A heat engine receives 6kW from a 250°C source and rejects heat at 30°C. Examine each of the following three cases using the Clausius inequality (ie. are these processes reversible? Impossible? Etc.) a. ± ² ³´ b. ± ² µ´ c. Carnot Cycle 4. How can you change the entropy of a substance going through a reversible process? 5.
