Collection of Hair and Fibers There are many methods of hair and fiber collection. The investigator may collect hairs and fibers directly by hand or with a pair of tweezers. Alternative light sources such as ultraviolet light may be used to enhance the visibility of the fibers. Clear tape can be used to lift both visible and non-visible hair from a variety of surfaces. Vacuuming method of collection is used for large crime scenes or where the most likely point of transfer is unknown. Another method of collection is brushing, scraping or shaking of garment or other cloth objects. The material being examined is held over a white sheet of paper and abraded in order to dislodge any hair adhering to it. The garments may also be placed in a bag and agitated to dislodge any loose fibers. This method allows the investigator to collect the evidence at the bottom of the bag rather than having it dispersed in the air. Finally, combing and
