Barbara Dubois, 23, was found dead near her room in the Yoknapatawpha County Conference Center hotel, where she was a finalist in the first annual Yoknapatawpha County Literature Beauty pageant. Brief narrative of the case POLICE OFFICER Winston was met in the lobby of the YCCC hotel by three adult females: Mary Jones, the victim's friend; Susan Dubois, the victim's mother; and Scarlett Webb, a competitor in the pageant.
