Course Description: SJSU Catalog Description: Allocation of resources and distribution of income as affected by the workings of the price system and by government policies. Notes: May be taken concurrently or prior to Econ 1A. General Education: Economics 1B is a general education course that meets the requirements for area D1 in the social science area. Students will learn to apply microeconomic theory, to evaluate social information, draw upon different points of view, and formulate policy implications. Finally, students will be able to place social events in an appropriate context. Writing assignments of 1500 words will satisfy the GE writing requirement; details will be announced within the first third of the semester. Further Description: This class will enable students to critically analyze the economic, social, and political world around them. I encourage you to stay curious and keep an open mind. Hopefully, you will have fun and this will be one of your best educational experiences. Course Materials: Textbook: Gwartney, Stroup, Sobel, and Macpherson, Microeconomics: Private and Public Choice , 12 th Edition (2009, 2006, South-Western).
