Comm 100W 9/10/08 My History as a Writer As a writer there have been many experiences where I have either improved or lowered my ability in constructing a paper. Unfortunately I have had more bad experiences rather than good experiences. With the exception of a few, I had bad teachers who either taught me something that I already knew from previous classes or they had taught me something that I had ended up not using. In my freshmen year of high school my English I teacher taught us something called the “hourglass” method. In this method, you would create a basic outline for your essay which includes the introduction, you main body points, one or two details for those body points, and then your conclusion. Once you have outlined those points, you put them together like a puzzle and try to make use of some transitions to make it flow better. To create the introduction, you would state your position on a paper topic, list out your body paragraphs, and add in your thesis. To create the conclusion, you would state your thesis again in the first sentence, and list your main points of your body paragraphs in order to add onto your conclusion. To close up the entire paper, you would try and end with a
