The struggle over power or influence within organizations or informal groups that can grant organizations or informal groups that can grant or withhold benefits or privileges. Harold Lasswell’s definition: “Politics is the struggle over who gets what, when, and how.” Citizenship and Government Citizenship: 1. Knowledge of government. Do you know the “rules of the game” in American politics? informed and active membership in a political community 2. Knowledge of politics. Do you know the “stakes” of political conflicts? 3. Knowledge of democratic principles. Do you know how a democracy is supposed to work?
