1 Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) IDEA has several components regulating assessment practice: Assessment practice should be fair and objective Due process procedures exist for settling disputes The law includes specific sections to address the steps in the assessment process The student should be assessed in all areas of concern

2 IDEA contains components to promote nondiscriminatory assessment: Nondiscriminatory assessment instruments should be selected and administered in a fair and objective manner Assessment must be carried out in the child’s native language or mode of communication A variety of measures should be used to gather information about the student Students who are evaluated for specific learning disabilities must be observed in the regular classroom setting
