Harrison Bergeron 1. Read the story and comment on the adaptation. What is preserved from the original? What is different? What do you think of the adaptation? Any thoughts on how they might update it further in the remake that is coming out in 2009? When I read “THE YEAR WAS 2081,” I immediately thought of the world as it was in The Jetsons, or at least a somewhat perfect world. Then I soon got thrown off guard while reading through the story, because the world was not described glamorously as most futuristic, stereotypical stories. It was described as a world under a watch by “Big Brother,” but worse since noone had free thought and all was forced to be equally “smart.” Thus, the general theme of egalitarianism was preserved from the original, expressed satirely. However, the difference was that Harrison Bergeron played a much bigger role in the adaption. He was shown as a real person who had thoughts and feelings, unlike in the story where he was described as aggressive and insane.
