History 15a Professor McBane Extra Credit Assignment “Glory” This was a movie that I had seen many years ago, probably in a history class from an earlier educational experience, and I recently watched again because I remembered how captivating and moving some of the scenes were. The movie Glory is about a young officer in the federal or union army during the civil war who is chosen to lead the first company of black soldiers. Companies of black soldiers were raised as a result of the emancipation proclamation. Despite the fierce threats made southern leaders that state any captured black soldier fighting for the union army along with any commanding officer of any black soldiers will face the immediate consequence of death Colonel Robert. G. Shaw still persists in his brave ambitions. The movie depicts a few of the many difficulties faced by both the original union army and the black soldier additions to the union army. The brutality of the war is shown in hospital scenes where soldiers are begging for the surgeons to stop cutting in order to save them from the
