PHI 61: MORAL ISSUES THIRD PAPER TOPICS Due Date for paper : Monday, 5/17/10, in class OR Wednesday, 5/19/10, in my office during extended office hours (9:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m.) I will not accept late papers unless you have an excused absence (arranged in advance) Papers should be at least 4 but no more than 8 (double-spaced, size 12 font, 1" margin) pages. The Topics Using the textbook and citing relevant authors, readings, and page numbers we’ve covered, when necessary, choose one (1) of these topics and compose an argumentative essay that answers the following questions: 1. EUTHANASIA : In cases where a family has been told that their ailing loved one is terminally ill in the opinions of at least two doctors, should it be morally permissible for the family to request that the doctor give a lethal injection to the terminally ill person? Suppose the ailing loved one has not made his or her wishes known to family and friends. Use at least one reading we read that s relevant to this debate (Dyck or Rachels) and explain what one of these authors would recommend should be done in this case. Be sure to raise and respond to at least two objections against your position on this issue.
