Example: Name Anth 100W The emergence of agriculture and animal domestication first appeared in the Near East approximately 10,000 years ago. The deliberate manipulation of plants and animals for human consumption had enormous consequences for the human species. With the inception of plant and animal domestication cultures changed dramatically, hunting and gathering was largely abandoned, and complex societies emerged. Jared Diamond (1997) argues that planting a seed in the soil was human kind’s worst mistake.
