Syllabus BUS2/JS/PHIL 186 PROFESSIONAL AND BUSINESS ETHICS San José State University – Spring 2010 Course Sections Section 1 Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:30AM to 8:45AM DMH357 Section 9 Mondays and Wednesdays 12:00PM to 1:15PM BBC004 Instructor Lisa Bernasconi, Faculty Office Building 206; Office Hours: Wednesdays 9:00AM to 10:15AM, lisabernasconi@gmail.com (See me in class or email me to discuss something outside of office hours.) University Catalog Course Description Interdisciplinary study of types of ethical problems which arise within the contexts of business occupations and professions. Major ethical theories, critique of economic and criminal justice. Focus is on issues of justice and equality in the U.S. Case studies. General Education Statement Because this is a general education course, written assignments will include both in-class and out-of-class writing, giving students practice and feedback throughout the semester. A minimum of 3000 words of writing will be required in a language and style appropriate for the discipline. Courses to meet Areas R, S, and V of SJSU Studies must be taken from three different departments, or distinct academic units. Prerequisite Completion of core GE, satisfaction of Writing Skills Test and upper division standing. For students who begin continuous enrollment at a CCC or a CSU in Fall 2005 or later, completion of, or co-requisite in a 100W course is required. Required Text Shaw, William H., and Barry Vincent.
