Economic and financial history pre2001 Economy flourished in the beginning of the twentieth century—grew 5% for 3yrs Gained Spanish and British capital rated one of the 10 richest countries 2. Crisis: what happened? Government policy to solve the crisis Juan Peron ruled Argentina from 1946 to 1955 and instituted protectionist measures and printed money to finance generous benefits for workers Eventually, state interference created a structural weakness in the economy as well as poor productivity Soon enough, inflation infiltrated and caused bank collapses
