Sheet1 Page 1 Computing Z Scores with Excel* Finding the Mean 1) Enter in data(this will be done for you) 2) Select a cell just below the last data entry. This is where the Average (ie. mean) will go. 3) Select 'More Function', 'Statistical' and then 'AVERAGE', which is under the 'Formulas' tab in Excel. 4) In the Number 1 box, type in column letter and row number for the first cell and the last cell of interest (ie B9: B23) If you've chosen the open cell below last data point, cells of interest should already be highlighted. 5) Click ok, mean should show up in cell below last data point entered. Finding Standard Deviation 1)Click on open cell below mean value that was just calculated. 2)Select 'More Function', 'Statistical' and then 'STDEV', which is under the 'Formulas' tab in Excel. 3)Similar to mean, type in column letter and row number for the first cell and the last cell of interest. Like you did for the average, it should be in form of b2:b23.
