University Computing and Telecommunications University Computing and Telecommunications (UCAT) is a department on the San Jose State University campus. There are several major functions that are handled within the department to service the university including: being the telephone company of the campus, providing LAN and wireless networks, and serving as support for server based problems like email. Although not a profit driven company, UCAT is a necessary service and one of the only departments that actually generates revenue for the university, for these reasons the company’s life is secure. In a company such as this where the business is secure, a unique culture forms. To take a better look at the atmosphere and culture that has been created here, we’ve interviewed the HR Representative Mr. Shawn Lahr. After explaining the different types of cultural indexes to Mr. Lahr, we had him rate where UCAT falls among the indexes. He felt that the stability, team consideration, and attention to detail were the indexes that were focused on the most within the company.
