294 Assignments Global Plan of Study: This document will outline your interests, both academic and personal, and map where you’re coming from and where you would like to go. We will refer to this document throughout the semester as we plot your research. This document should be written up in narrative form and provide the following: details of the factors that led you to attend graduate school in communication studies; your general career aspirations with an explanation of what attracts you to those careers; how you see your graduate work helping you to attain those career goals (specifically); and what you feel you need to accomplish intellectually in your culminating experience and the remainder of your course work. In addition to the practical information this document should provide, it should also convey what you believe communication studies as a discipline offers the projects, problems, institutions, and practices with which you will work in

Conference write-up: Attend a minimum of one presentation or panel at an academic conference. After attending an academic conference, write up a brief (900 words) description of your trip and some reflection on your experience. Was it what you expected? What value did you see to the conference experience? Was there anything about it that disappointed you and/or discouraged you from attending another one? (Note: These questions are merely prompts. Please do not answer them one by one in your paper.) Keep in mind that one of our objectives in 294 is to reflect on how professional and disciplinary obligations shape research and knowledge production.
