Plot the u-q and q-k curves and estimate the maximum flow rates ( m q ) of the 2 common safe driving rules described below. Use plotting range from 0 mph to 75 mph with an increment of 5 mph for u, and from 0 veh/mi/ln to 150 veh/mi/ln with an increment of 10 veh/mi/ln for k. a) Maintain a 3 seconds separation with the vehicle in the front regardless of speed. b) Maintain a safe distance of one car length for every 10 MPH of speed, i.e., keep a distance of 4 car lengths with the vehicle in front when traveling at 40 MPH; 5 car lengths for 50 MPH. Use car length L = 20 feet. 2. Demand data of a freeway segment were collected and summarized in the table to the right. Times shown in the table are start times of each 15 minute time slice. The capacity of this freeway segment was determined to be 4400 veh/hr. a) Plot the queuing (cumulative vehicle time) diagram. b) What was the maximum queue in number of vehicles?
