Chapter 11 Human Resource Management The ultimate resource- ultimately skilled workers are the foundation of any company, you can have any number of workers but they need to have skills in order to complete the job. The challenges- technology saves the companies money but reduces jobs, diversity, etc. Recruitment Selection Hiring Contingent Workers Training and development- orientation, on the job, apprenticeship, off the job, online simulation. Management Development Performance appraisal- establishing standards, communicating those standards, evaluating, etc. Compensation- Pay systems- salary, hourly, piecework, commission/bonuses, profit sharing, gain sharing, stock options. Team compensation Fringe benefits Cafeteria style fringe benefits: picking and choosing what kind of benefits you want, being able to get the pay out for benefits you don’t want instead of taking
