In chapter 10 of In Mixed Company , J. Dan Rothwell discusses conflicts within groups and the appropriate actions to manage the conflict. He defines definition and includes different styles of conflict management, situational factors, negotiating strategies, and anger management. As I read the chapter, I understood all the concepts, and I was able to relate them to a real life conflict I had many years ago in high school. My story may not include al the aspects that the Village Haven case study covers, but it does relate many of the same concepts. My conflict began on the school football field where my team played in our first and only preseason game of the season. We played the game similar to a scrimmage, or a practice game. About halfway into our game, there was a great amount of tension between the two teams and players began getting more and more physical. The game was a tough battle for both teams, but the conflicts emerged as some of their players began playing dirty, or physically unfair. While I was on the field at defensive back, one of their
