Ross Stores, Inc. is one of leading off price retailers within the United States. As of 2007, Ross operates a chain of 771 stores in twenty-seven different states. Ross has been very well known for their slogan, “Dress for Less.” Even though Ross had been operating at one of the largest chains of its kind, it managed to become more dominant in the market when the chain was purchased in 1982 by a group of investors. Among these investors includes Mervin Morris, the founder of the Mervyn’s chain. At that time there were only six stores, which happen to be located in the San Francisco Bay Area. During the following decade, the chain grew significantly under the leadership of Stuart Moldaw and Don Rowlett, when they began setting their store prices below retail value.
