Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. It is an organization that helps individuals understand, cope, consul and resolve the issue of alcoholism. In their view alcoholism is a disease. They define an alcoholic as an individual who cannot control their drinking because they are ill in their bodies, minds and emotions. The world wide fellowship help each other stay sober. They welcome any body to join no matter the age, race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. Locally the A.A. office is located at 274 E. Hamilton Ave., Suite D in Campbell, CA 95008. There is also a 24-Hour help line: (408) 374-8511. The office has a main desk and then a couple executive offices. Andy and I identified the agency because it is well known in the media and around the world. It is an organization that almost everyone knows about because they are willing to help anyone ranging from students to senior citizens. The quick history on A.A. is that it was founded in 1935 by a New York Stockbroker and an Ohio Surgeon who had both realized they were “hopeless” drunks. June 10, 1935 is celebrated as the founding date of Alcoholics Anonymous because it was the day one of the founders Dr. Bob has his last drink. Slowly the two founders meet with individuals and one by one commit them to sobriety. Eventually, after years of hard work and hope, the organization is formed.
