Instruction focuses on practice and review of grammatical structure, vocabulary-building, reading, writing, and conversation beyond the elementary level. The emphasis is on communication. Students are required to participate in discussion and other classroom activities. We will continue to build up a working vocabulary. We will improve grammatical accuracy in speaking and writing. Furthermore, we will be able to distinguish between the colloquial and written styles of Chinese language. We will apply basic notions of translation to practice the targeted patterns and structures. Idioms, proverbs, logic connectives, and hypothetical statements will be introduced in a rich cultural context. At this point, and probably for some time to come, your Chinese may seem
