Professor Salazar Latin America ANTH 178 Spring 2010 Ethnographic Paper The project assigned for this course will provide you with some experience in doing anthropology. This paper accounts for 25% of the final grade. Please submit a brief paragraph indicating what your chosen topic is and why you have chosen it on March 22 nd . The ethnographic paper is due May 4 th . The general focus of your inquiry is: How is Latin American culture present in your community? Investigate your paper using the basic anthropological approach of participant-observation (observation, note-taking, casual conversations). Potential topics include music, food, politics, dance, television programming, language, capoeira, ethnic festivals, religious observances, etc. Please see me if you want to discuss a topic of interest to you. A key to a good project is to find something in which you are interested, which is accessible to you and which will provide you with rich descriptions that you can analyze. The time you spend performing observations will vary depending upon your topic, but
