Anthropology 115 Professor Anderson Assignment 7: Ethnographic Paper The Global Alternatives Fair presented a great chance for all of us to learn a lot from our peers. We got to see many different types of commodities that were presented to us by our peers in the class. Each group had noticeably put in many hours of work and had strong and informative poster boards and power points available for the presentation. Some groups even went the extra mile and had more to present. For instance, the rice group had fried rice, rice milk and rice krispie treats available while we listened to their informative presentation. Rice is a very unique commodity, because it is one of the most widely eaten foods in the world. I learned many things about rice. For example, the amount of water used on rice during the farming and harvesting process is taking a huge toll on our water reserves. However, since rice is such a staple in our global diet it is not refuted. Another interesting fact I learned about rice is that the amount of subsidies available for American rice farmers has caused a global price drop in the price of rice, and therefore has created a situation in which international rice farmers are not able to make a
