4/22/08 - Supportive behavior o Supportive behavior has a strong positive effects on job satisfaction and organizational commitment o Direct Supportive behavior can lead to quick positive results but creates dependency for the follower. o Indirect support would be better for the long run - Directive Leader Behavior o Has strong positive effects on job performance This is true only if the leader provides guidance. o Need to exercise care is using this behavior. o Really good in a massively stressful situation. - A moderate amount of supportive and directive behavior is best. - Better to be supportive first and then be directive. - Participative behavior o Often have strong effects on job performance. the reason why is due to better decision quality because people are helping to make decisions more. Also there is more commitment because the followers have more of a say in things Participative behavior usually gets followed by directive in order to implement the decisions. Highly experience and educated leaders are more likely to use participative.
