2/11/2008 Bus 80 Case 3.1 Brief Rio Properties, Inc. v. Rio International Interlink Issue Rio opened a website, address http://www.playrio.com, to provide information for the sports gambling players and to take hotel reservations. While setting up the website Rio Properties Inc. finds out that there is a company call Rio International Interlink, which operates internet sports gambling. Rio Properties sues RII for using its patented name. Rule RII did not show up for the trial so the ruling was in favor of Rio Properties Inc. Application RII has to change their name and pay fine. Conclusion RII not only has to pay the fine for using the name Rio but they also have to change the name of the company and the website.

Unformatted text preview: Issue The Rio Properties Inc. and the Court only had the email address of RII. This is due to RII not having any physical address in US and Costa Rica. So the email was the only means of communication to RII. RII states that the court did not give them the right notice to show up to the court. Rule The Court did not have any contact other than email. Therefore the court has done every thing they could to contact the defendant. So it is RIIs fault for not showing up. Application RII has to change their name and pay fine. Conclusion RII not only has to pay the fine for using the name Rio but they also have to change the name of the company and the website....
