Claim: There are basic gender differences. The whole article is in support of this claim. Through examples and premises the editor is trying to prove that yes, there are basic gender difference. The examples used are ways in which there are basic gender differences. Furthermore, the major claim of the editorial is that the world is a better place because of gender differences among men and woman. Laura Pope acknowledges many gender differences and provides many examples throughout her column. Pope shares her point of view from the start of the letter and concludes her editorial with the same claim made. In fact, she makes her claim so dominant by rephrasing the claim using different words several times. We confirm that this was the claim by using the rule from Epstein, “A declarative sentence used in such a way that it is either true or false (but not both).” (Epstein, 3) B. Premise 1- An example of a male response compared to a woman’s, when asked about a women the male recently met. (She isn’t fat, she isn’t ugly…) (Paragraph 4 and 5) This supports the claim by being an experiment of how men and women have a different reflex of responses when asked simple questions. This is an example of how men and women have a gender difference when responding to a question. Premise 2- Another example of how men and women are different when they are channel viewing on television. Men channel surf so fast that they do not take the time to stop and
