Problem 4 (Due March 17) A pharmaceutical company is in the process of developing a drug that improves tissue oxygenation by increasing the percentage of bound oxygen released from hemoglobin (Hb) during its passage through the capillaries of extrapulmonary tissue. It is hoped that this drug will be of therapeutic value to patients suffering from diminished lung capacity. Four different agents (A-D listed below) are currently under consideration. Evaluate each with respect to the effectiveness of the proposed agent in promoting increased oxygen release, providing explicit reasons for accepting/rejecting the drug.
