SAN JOSE STATE UNIVERSITY School of Nursing Description of Practicum, Semester 7 NURS 147A.01 Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (15 Weeks) Phyllis M. Connolly, PhD, APRN-BC, CS NURS 147A.1 Adult Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing Rehabilitation, (Tues. 0800-1400). This practicum guided by a faculty member certified as a clinical specialist in adult psychiatric/mental health nursing provides students with an experience in the community with persons with serious mental illness. Several community settings are utilized: John 23 rd SJSU, Nurse Managed Center, 195 E. San Fernando; Donna’s Place Day Rehab, 2100 The Alameda; Zoe House, 27 S. 11 th Street, SJ, a licensed Board and Care home; and Litteral House, a transitional residential site. In addition, students may spend two weeks at the Santa Clara County Main Jail, in the psychiatric-mental health unit. Students work under the Nurse Managed Centers (NMCs) program at each site and collect data (Omaha Documentation System) on services delivered (see NMC Protocol for research data
