I was privileged to attend the SVCE Eminent Speaker event led by our instructor, Professor Bennett, last Monday March 9 th . The event concentrated on bootstrapping start-ups, the pros and cons, and three guest speakers who shared their experience and knowledge. I found the discussion very interesting and engaging beginning with Prof. Bennett. I love how he called on the rest of the faculty to answer the questions. It was kind of funny and entertaining seeing them in the “hot seat”. It helped set the mood for a quite comfortable and interactive seminar. The first guest, Jon Fisher, author and serial entrepreneur, who seemed like was no stranger to seeking VCs to invest. One point I found note-worthy was how one should not give up ownership of any start-up; therefore always maintain 50.1% or more of the company. Secondly when it came to the first round of capital, he mentioned how the company should build a beta; more importantly, prove it works. Then, he even emphasized on setting goals, do everything to the best of your ability, and think big
