Imagine a young girl named Amber, age 15, who becomes pregnant because of her half witted, short term, anything but serious boyfriend. She was unfortunately only taught about abstinence. Alabama State does not allow Abraham Lincoln High School or any other public middle or high school to educate teens about birth control or any other form of comprehensive sex education. In the end her hormones and his pressure turned out to be a stronger influence then the few minutes of abstinence education in her local high school. To this day, the government only funds abstinence only programs in America’s education system although 75% of parents say they would prefer their teens to learn about both abstinence and birth control methods. That is why I believe abstinence until marriage only programs are not effective until combined with comprehensive sex education meaning you teach our youth about contraception, condoms, birth control, and other preventative measures. Because Amber was an unfortunate example of a poor sex education
