Dear Brian Scudamore, Thank you for the opportunity to be your franchise consultant. It is with great honor and respect that I offer my counsel to you. After studying the information I was provided I am led to believe that Mr. Paul Guy has bought your franchise from you and set up his business in Toronto. After Mr. Guy set up in Toronto it was brought to his attention that Toronto offers free trash pick-up and thus there is a problem. As I understand, the problem is that there is not a market for the franchise, 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, because the belief that people will not pay to remove their junk when they can get it moved for free. I believe this theory to be well warranted and justifiable. I believe this case first and foremost should serve as a learning experience for the company. It is apparent that in depth research of the local market, laws, and public programs was not done. In the future it is recommended that it be clearly stated in the contract that the franchisee must perform due diligence before buying
