- What is it? o Asean A.S.E.A.N. – Stands for The Association of South East Asian Nations Formed on August 8 th  1967 by Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines,  Singapore, and Thailand. Their prime ministers have become the  foundation’s founding fathers. Since then, other groups have come to join them including, laos and  Vietnam.  Their aims include the acceleration of economic growth, social progress,  Cultural Development within its members and to promote regional peace. - Vietnam o Economy Initially slumping in economic growth they had to partner up with several  others to increase economic growth.  Holds several major exports including rice, rubber, tea, coffee and fishery  products. Has one of the smallest unemployment rates in the world. Most of available land in Vietnam is used to grow crops and other types of  agriculture for trade. Recently Joined WTO in 2006.
