Native Americans have problem with immigrants A. they take away jobs 1. depress wages a) immigrants are being rebels b) they are bringing in world views of communism c) “inferior culture” d) people are coming from eastern and southern europe, people look different, speak different languages, have different reli- gions e) BUT they are CHEAP labor which tops all of the above 2. between 1820-1880 6 million immigrants come to US 3. between 1880-1900 14 million immigrants come to US 4. between 1900-1920 14 million immigrants come to US 5. Chain Migration - a) one member of family moves then other family members follow them. you move where friends and neighbors move. 6. Birds of Passage- a) relate to immigrants and their moving, (refers to almost 1/3 of immigrants that go back) b) some go back and forth, come to USA get a job, make money then go back to home country B. immigrants- 1. they rely on other people with the same culture a) living in area that they are connected with those of same lan- guage, religion, etc.
